1:1b Paul

A Servant of Jesus Christ

00;04;45;23 – 00;05;11;25
What an encouraging word where you get your Bibles tonight and turn with us, please, to the book of Romans Chapter one. The Romans, Chapter one. Thank you for your faithfulness and your patience and your attendance of God’s house on Sunday nights. It’s always a joy and a privilege to see you all twice on Sunday. And I mean that It’s a great, great honor to be the pastor of this great church.

00;05;11;25 – 00;05;33;05
And for the Lord to be using me in some small way here. And you’re important to me. And I’m so thankful for all that God has given to us by way of partnership. I truly believe what Solomon said, that a two is better than one. A threefold cord is hard to be broken. The more the merrier. And is my is my thoughts on these things.

00;05;33;05 – 00;05;53;20
Most of the time, the more the merrier. There’s some folks I wish I could pinch their head off and and you know, maybe delete, you know, but that’s not a not anybody here tonight. Amen. You can turn your Bible, if you would. Romans Chapter one. And I’m going to read from verses one through seven. So if you’re able to stand out, appreciate that.

00;05;53;23 – 00;06;34;07
But I will tell you that we’re not going to get far. We’re not going to get any further than six words tonight. And so find your copy of God’s Word. Let me begin reading in chapter one, verse number one. If you have a place at a night church where you say in Romans chapter one, verse one, Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated into the Gospel of God, which he had promised for by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures concerning His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the

00;06;34;07 – 00;07;01;07
spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, by whom we have received grace, and Apostle Philip for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name, among whom are also the called of Jesus Christ, to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints, grace to you and peace from God, our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

00;07;01;11 – 00;07;26;24
That’s the first sentence of the Epistle to the Romans. You can be seated. Thank you for your referencing of God’s Word tonight. I am anxious to introduce a subject to our church that we have discussed on occasion, but not enough. And this evening, because it is part of our verse, by our new verse by verse study of the book of Romans.

00;07;26;24 – 00;07;55;13
It’s going to permit me to spend a little more time with this very, very important subject. That is throughout the whole New Testament and really both testaments in the opening verse. We were introduced last Sunday to Paul and we discussed his background, We discussed his calling to be an apostle, his conversion to the Church of the Living God.

00;07;55;13 – 00;08;23;06
He, who was once a persecutor of the church, has now become the apostle to the Gentiles. And if it weren’t for Paul, we would not have the most important sections of our New Testament. We love the books of Paul. They are incredibly important for the church’s doctrine, especially the church epistles. And so I’m thankful for all of them, but especially the book of Romans.

00;08;23;09 – 00;08;57;03
Paul did not church start the church in Rome. He actually is an afterward visitor to the church in Rome. But he had a lot of friends there. In fact, if you’re not familiar with the 16th chapter, I’ll just point out to you that the Apostle Paul, I think I mentioned this a little bit last week, the Apostle Paul had a whole lot of friends and acquaintances in the church at Rome because as he closes the letter in chapter 16, he refers to someone named Phoebe and he refers to Priscilla and Aquila.

00;08;57;06 – 00;09;23;17
He refers to empanadas. He refers in verse number 5 to 2, two, and then to Mary in verse six to Andrew NICUs and Junior, his kinsman, he calls them in verse number seven. He refers to amplifiers in verse number eight. That’s a Roman name. He refers to Urbain and verse number nine. That’s a Roman name. Stackhouse is a Roman name.

00;09;23;19 – 00;09;56;14
Verse ten, a police is a Roman name, verse 11 Herodian obviously a Roman name, Narcissus, a Roman name, tri fino and tri fossa, verse 12 Rufus, That’s my buddy is a Roman name and verse number 13, a Syncretism flag on Hermes, Petrobras, Hermes and a host of others Philologists and Julia and Nereus Neruda and Olympus. All Roman names, all Roman names.

00;09;56;16 – 00;10;28;08
So Paul has a real affinity for the people in Rome, and as he writes to them, he breaks the ice in a very masterful way by introducing himself as a servant of Jesus Christ. Now, I love that word servant, and that’s where we’re going to spend our time tonight talking about the terms that give us our King James translation of the word servant.

00;10;28;10 – 00;10;51;05
He just says, a servant of Jesus Christ. And later he’s going to call Jesus Lord. And that’ll be an important part of tonight’s discussion as well. But I want to spend most of our time discussing the etymology of this word servant. Now, there’s sometimes when we come to church, we get to enjoy some meat. Meat is a little harder to digest.

00;10;51;08 – 00;11;22;10
You have to do some chewing. You have to do some. Maybe you could call it meditate ing. When it comes to the meat of God’s Word. Tonight, I’m going to give you some milk and it is sweet milk. It is easy on the palate. I am persuaded that the subject of serving Jesus is not a complicated subject. I want to say that one more time.

00;11;22;12 – 00;11;57;12
When you get saved, that’s what you are stating that you intend to do is to serve Jesus Christ. Salvation is not just fire insurance that keeps us out of hell right? Right. Being saved, being a born again believer means that you intend for Jesus to be in charge of your life. Now, there are a thousand different labels that people will try to place on you when you believe what our church believes.

00;11;57;14 – 00;12;25;08
I just appreciate the label Bible believers and I am. I’m persuaded that at the end of the day, the Bible will continue to be king in this church. And for those reasons, we don’t approach the Bible, especially in the opening of a book like this. We don’t approach it with a question mark. We allow it to say whatever it wants to say and we just receive it and absorb it.

00;12;25;11 – 00;12;51;10
We do not debate it. Can I get a witness on that church? And so for those calls is God has blessed our church in so many different ways. But this is one of those subjects that has been debated. There are people everywhere who would like to call you something that maybe is not true when you start talking about living your life for Jesus Christ.

00;12;51;13 – 00;13;19;19
I got to confess to you, I don’t get it. I thought that’s what being saved means. Living your life for Jesus Christ. The last independent decision I ever made was trusting Jesus as my Savior. Everything since then has had his authority attached to it. And so the service of the Lord is something that we may take for granted today.

00;13;19;22 – 00;13;48;21
But what I want to do with this milk message tonight is I want for us to dissect and probe into the word servant. Now, if you’re a student of the Greek language, you know that this word servant in this passage is the Greek word do loss. It is in the Greek language. It is literally Delta Epsilon. Don’t I’m not say an oops.

00;13;48;21 – 00;14;27;21
That’s a real letter in the Greek language. Delta Epsilon Lager, a Lambda Absalon Epsilon Sigma do loss. That’s the way it’s pronounced. Do loss. And that term in the Greek language is rendered in our King James version servant. And it is referring to slavery. That’s the reference here. And this is where the rub begins. Our country has had such a dark history with slavery that no one wants to think of anyone as a slave.

00;14;27;24 – 00;15;06;26
No one wants to consider themselves a slave or no one wants to consider someone else being a bond slave to any individual or to any calls. Well, I have a solution for that tonight. I have no problem with slavery as long as we’re talking about the right master in the name. Slavery is an ugly subject. If you have bad masters and in the history of our country, slavery, the fact of slavery left a real a real blemish on our country’s history because of bad masters.

00;15;06;28 – 00;15;30;28
But slavery is a reality and a fact of Scripture. The Bible does not condone or forbid it. It just says it existed. And you remember on one occasion in the book of Philemon, there’s that letter that was written about Honest Amos, and he was a Bond slave. And the apostle Paul wrote back to fine men and said, I want you to receive him as a brother.

00;15;31;03 – 00;16;01;29
I know that you once were his slave master, but I want you to receive him as a brother in the Lord. So this ugly blemish that slavery has in our history can be reversed if we will program ourselves to just accept what the Bible has to say about the servitude of the believer. Now, the time of Paul’s writing, the population of Rome exceeded 1 million inhabitants.

00;16;02;01 – 00;16;38;16
It was a large, large city for its day. Nearly half of those people were slaves. You had basically two classes of people. You had the slave class and you had the free class. And some of them had been recently freed, had been recently emancipated and had become free men. And that was part of the reason why the Apostle Paul was writing the book of Romans, because he wanted them to know that when you are a believer, whether you’re a free man or whether you are a bond slave, it makes no difference.

00;16;38;16 – 00;17;07;09
You are still brothers in the Lord. You see that with me. And so it is easy for me to be able to admit today that no matter what a person’s skin color is, if they’re safe and they are my brother and they are my sister in the Lord and we are more kin, even if we don’t match pigmentation of our skin, we are very alike spiritually because they are servants of the Lord.

00;17;07;11 – 00;17;44;08
I am a servant of the Lord, and that makes us brothers in this family together. So in Rome, because there were so many slaves, it was necessary, according to the local politicians, to divide the classes. We need the free class and we need the slave class. And this this division, according to Roman history, a lot of times was made according to race, the slaves servants were reminded over and over and over of their status because they could not imagine this with me now.

00;17;44;11 – 00;18;10;24
They could not share a name with a free person. So slave thieves had just a handful of names, and that handful of names was oftentimes given a number assigned to it. For example, if the slaves name was Rufus, you might have Rufus one and Rufus two and Rufus three and Rufus 12 and Rufus 15, and so on and so forth.

00;18;10;27 – 00;18;40;29
But you could not share a name with the free class. So a Roman name is Jason Philip. That’s a Roman name. That’s a free Roman name. Alexander That’s a free Roman name. So no slave could ever be named Alexander or Jason or Philip or Herodias. They couldn’t be named anything that resembled a free person’s name. They had to be reminded, You’re in bondage.

00;18;41;01 – 00;19;02;04
And don’t ever forget that you are old. Don’t ever forget them. So the policy of Rome was very sectarian. Now stay with me. I promise you I’m going somewhere with this and I want you to go with me. It’s impossible for us to understand the Bible by bringing it up to today. We have to go back to what was happening when it was written.

00;19;02;06 – 00;19;30;06
If we’re going to understand. And just like in the history of our nation, there were slave boys in Rome that were abused. Slavery was a part of that culture. And needing to understand that is paramount. When you read the book of Romans and in Bible days, slavery came in several different forms. There were what were known as day laborers.

00;19;30;09 – 00;19;52;08
Day laborers were people who basically went down to the marketplace and stood there early, early, early in the morning. And a business man would come along and say, I’ll hire you, you and you, I’ll pay you so and so a wage. And at the end of the day, he would give them that wage. It was forbidden in the Old Testament to hold their wages over to the next day.

00;19;52;16 – 00;20;22;07
They needed those wages to pay a debt or to purchase groceries or whatever the case might have been. So these day laborers, known as servants, would oftentimes be would oftentimes be recruited out in the marketplace. And they were not owned. They were they were just least you understand the reference here. They were not owned or purchased. They were just we were just buying their time, as it were.

00;20;22;09 – 00;20;55;23
And then there is this servant that we’re talking about in Romans one. There is the do lost servant. Now in the Old Testament exodus. The Bible tells us the story of a slave who at the year of Jubilee was to be set free. You understand that every seven years you had to let them all go. And in Exodus chapter 21, it tells us the story of a very different arrangement, something you imagine you and I probably will not be familiar with.

00;20;55;25 – 00;21;21;13
There were slaves that at the year of Jubilee would tell their masters, We don’t want to be free. We want to be your permanent slave. And that master would take that slave to the door post of the house and he would heat up the tip of an all like a leather all. Or maybe you would maybe an ice pick.

00;21;21;13 – 00;21;49;17
Some of you might be familiar with that. And he would place the ear lobe of that slave onto the door post and he would use that that sharp tip and pierce the ear of that slave and place a ring in it. And it was visible from the front, the back and from whatever side was pierced. And it was that slave’s testimony from that day forward.

00;21;49;20 – 00;22;34;03
I am not my own. I have been bought. I am owned by a good master. I could have been free, but I chose to stay in bondage. Now, these are kind of words that kind of a turn off for us. Bondage, slavery. But if the masters feed you and housing you and medicating you when you’re sick and encouraging you when you’re discouraged, if the master is keeping your family together, if the master is treating you well, why not submit to His Lordship?

00;22;34;05 – 00;23;01;07
Now ponder with this with me for just a moment. When Paul wrote these words in chapter one, verse number one, he said, I am a slave or a servant of Jesus Christ. All of their eyes were immediately open. 50% of the population of Rome said, I know what it’s like to be a servant. And so when Paul wrote to them and said, I’m a servant like you are, I just have a different master than you do.

00;23;01;10 – 00;23;34;25
I’m a servant of Jesus Christ. Those people stood at attention and said, Wait a minute, you can have Jesus as your master. Paul submits them. And just the opening six words of this epistle. He says he submits to them that there is a great master, but the arrangements are final. You’re not going to be his employee. Now think this through with me for just a minute.

00;23;34;28 – 00;24;00;20
I feel like I’m losing some of you. If I am, you know, you have to shake my hand after the service. But please listen to the rest of the message here. All right? I’m not an employee of Jesus. You can have more than one job. Jesus is not my boss. Why? You can have more than one boss on Earth.

00;24;00;22 – 00;24;29;26
So that’s not the word here. I’m not the day laborer of Jesus. I don’t just show up when I want to work for him. Now, that’s not the arrangement here. The arrangement here includes expectations. The arrangement here includes relationship. And he uses this word, I think masterfully, because what he is saying is later he would use he would say like this.

00;24;29;29 – 00;25;01;20
You have been bought with a price. Now, I want you to imagine that with me tonight, because I love that teaching. I want you to imagine that Jesus found you and then he paid for you and he owns you and I outright. He owns everything. And there is nothing. Mine. All right. You say, Well, wait a minute. What about my body?

00;25;01;23 – 00;25;32;07
Well, that’s exactly the words he uses. He says you ought to be glorifying God in your body and in your spirit, which he says, What next? Which are gods? God owns your body. And so we are to be using our body in the work of serving Jesus Christ. And our soul is. He is. That’s obvious. Our spirit is.

00;25;32;07 – 00;26;05;14
He is. That’s obvious in my soul. In my spirit. Listen to me now are in complete cooperation with him. Now, the one that I have a problem with once in a while is my body getting my body in gear and getting my body motivated to serve. Jesus is something I have to work at. Now, here’s the thing. In the ugly days of our the history of our country and an unwilling slave would have been whipped.

00;26;05;16 – 00;26;35;07
I got good news. Jesus has never whipped me. And I’m sure you get that He has the right to, but he has not abused me and forced me to serve God. So what does all this mean? Well, when you become bought, when you become owned by Jesus Christ, I want you to understand several things. First of all, you have no more schedule, right?

00;26;35;09 – 00;26;58;18
But he says when it’s time to get up, he says, when it’s time to lie down. One he says, when it’s time to buy, He says When it’s time to sell, there are no listen, I don’t. Please don’t let me lose anybody tonight. Please. There are no independent decisions. You say, Well, wait a minute. I want to spend my money the way I want to spend it.

00;26;58;18 – 00;27;19;13
You see, you don’t understand serving Jesus. It’s not your money. Are you getting that with me? So. Well, I want to spend my time the way I want you. Not understanding servitude. It’s not your time. Well, I want to. I want to use my resources the way I want to use them. You see, you may not be understanding this.

00;27;19;13 – 00;28;02;13
Those are not your resources. It all belongs to Jesus. All of it. And he bought it with his precious blood. Now, somebody. Somebody rise up and tell me right now what he does not deserve. Is there anybody that can say, Jesus deserves to own everything except this? That’s not true. He owns it all. And if we’re not willing to cooperate with that, if we’re not willing to participate in this relationship of slave and master, we might be missing the point.

00;28;02;16 – 00;28;29;07
His schedule will now be dictated by the master. He forfeited all his land. I don’t own land. I’m just managing it for Jesus. He is not in control of the fate of his children. It was not my kids. Can I get a witness on this church now? In the dark days of our country? They used to separate families.

00;28;29;07 – 00;28;48;24
I’ve never known Jesus to separate a family. And then in the dark days of our country, they used to treat sleep slaves like. Like breeding dogs. And then they would take the they would take the children away and and pawn them off and send them off to some other plantation. I’ve never known Jesus to treat people that way.

00;28;48;27 – 00;29;19;28
So when you’re thinking in your mind, you’re thinking like you’re thinking like an American, and that’s not going to help you understand the Bible. You got to start thinking biblically. If it’s a good master, then slavery is an excellent arrangement. Right. You see my point here? So he talks about the slave not being able to defend himself. In those days, if a person was a slave and that slave was treated wrongly, the slave didn’t go to court.

00;29;20;00 – 00;29;42;03
No, the master went to court on behalf of the slave. Well, I like that arrangement. He defends you. This is why he said this. A slave. All vengeance is mine. I will repay. He said you don’t go out there and try to act on behalf of the master. You don’t go out there and try to represent on behalf of the master.

00;29;42;03 – 00;30;16;13
No, no, no. He said, It is my right to exact vengeance when someone has wronged my servant. It’s all slave talk. He continues to teach us that this modern standpoint, we would judge this situation because we feel like it’s a loss of freedom and liberty. We are wrong if we assume that the servant never again. Once he is owned by Jesus, the servant never again has to worry about housing.

00;30;16;16 – 00;30;45;04
You know who’s responsible for keeping me housed? It’s Jesus, right? You know who’s responsible for keeping me healthy? It’s Jesus. He’s responsible for my accommodations. You never again have to worry about food. What do you do when things get a little lame? You say, Lord, give us this day our daily bread. What does he do? He is rationing out his goodness to us.

00;30;45;05 – 00;31;06;15
I love that. I love the fact that he is responsible for doling out his goodness to us and he is responsible for feeding and clothing and housing and tending to every one of our needs. He sustains everything in our life. I don’t know if you noticed, but he’s taken good care of me.

00;31;06;18 – 00;31;31;28
My life is a representation of the goodness of the master I serve. So if you’re content, he will mark you as his slave. He will buy you. And from that day forward, you have nothing else to worry about. Now, you don’t just get cost about and. And be idle. No, no, no. He still has expectations and he still has requirements.

00;31;32;01 – 00;31;54;02
And by the way, these good masters were willingly followed because they gave thought to the upkeep of the servant. They gave they cared about their health and their happiness. They. They respected the family rights of that servant. They medicated that servant. They housed that serve. They fed, that serve. They clothe. They offered much more with the servants feelings in mind.

00;31;54;02 – 00;32;16;06
They were constantly in touch with the servant. They were constantly sympathizing with the servant. They were considerate of every need. That is why the servant allowed him to pierce his ear. And while the servant said, If you’re that good of a master. And by the way, before you do this, you need to look at the master’s bank account.

00;32;16;08 – 00;32;37;21
Make sure he’s got the money to take care of you. I’ve been looking at Jesus banking account for 36 years and I promise you, there’s not one time he’s ever rung his hands and drank Maalox and chewed Rolaids, worried that he’s not going to be able to take care of me. No, no. If sirup goes to $10 a sop, my master is still going to take care of me.

00;32;37;24 – 00;33;05;21
So this is why Paul comes to the Romans and he says, I have a master that I want to recommend to you. Now I have to hurry later enrollments, and I think I’ll just since we’re already here and since there’s no need to rush away, I think I’ll just ask you to turn with me to chapter six. Let’s go a little deeper.

00;33;05;24 – 00;33;40;06
Chapter six, verse number 16, where you find your place there. Here’s what he says in verses 16 and following. No, you. Not that. To whom you yield yourselves. Here’s the word Do Los servants to obey his servant g r to whom you obey whether of sin under death or of obedience under righteousness. Now, when sin was your master?

00;33;40;09 – 00;34;10;11
How was it treating you, brother? It was expensive, wasn’t it? Come on, now. Don’t die on me. When sin was your master, didn’t it beat you? Didn’t it abuse you? Didn’t it split our family up? Yes. Didn’t it hurt you? Wasn’t it inconsiderate of your feelings? Wasn’t it more like a more like a taskmaster? Inconsiderate. Harsh. And when you served sin.

00;34;10;17 – 00;34;44;04
Sin. Wanted to spend up your energy. Sin wanted to exhaust you and then leave you dead. The wages of sin is what? Death. But the gift of God. The gift of God is through Jesus Christ. Look what He says in verse 16 again. He said, You obeyed sin. Here’s what happened. Here’s what you expected. You got death. Or verse 16 at the end of the verse of obedience unto righteousness.

00;34;44;07 – 00;35;12;04
You will be you obey Jesus. And guess what you get? You get righteousness. Go on verse 17. Paul said, But God be thanked that ye were the servants of sin. But you have obeyed from the heart. That form of doctrine which was delivered, you being then verse 18, being then made free from sin. He bought you from sin.

00;35;12;06 – 00;35;48;20
Sin no longer owns us. Sin no longer has jurisdiction. You see that verse 18 being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. Then he gets personal. Verse 19. I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh, for as you have yielded your members servants do law same word you yielded your members servants to unclean anus and to iniquity unto iniquity.

00;35;48;23 – 00;36;20;10
Even so, now yield your members servants to righteousness and holiness. You know how expensive it is to live in sin. You know how it’ll destroy your house, your home, your health. Now I want to challenge you. Then serve Jesus. It’s good for your health. It’s good for your bottom line. It’s good for your mental state. Do you see the difference here?

00;36;20;12 – 00;36;44;15
You’re serving one or the other right now. One, right. You’re either lost and you’re a bond slave of sin or you’re saved. And Jesus is your master. Yeah. That’s the only arrangement. There aren’t. There is no middle ground. So I think I’ll serve Jesus on Sundays and Wednesdays. That’s not the arrangement for you. And now he’s going to own you.

00;36;44;18 – 00;37;08;24
That’s the only condition. And if he does not own us, then we’re not truly born again. Now, watch this closely. He gets more personal. You think you can handle it? Verse 20 When you were servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. In other words, when you lived in sin, you did not have to be righteous. It wasn’t expected.

00;37;08;26 – 00;37;46;09
Do you understand? So now I have a question for you. Verse 21. What fruit had ye in those things where all of you are now? What ashamed When sin was your task master, you constantly hung your head because it made you do things that were shameful. Are you with me? When sin was your was your master? It marked your body in shameful ways.

00;37;46;11 – 00;38;12;00
It caused all of this delusion. You ever seen a sinner? I’m not being insulting. They’re crazy. They’re crazy. They don’t get it. They need a new master. So Paul asked a question. Verse number 21. What fruit had yam? Those things were of year. Now, shame for the end of those things is death. It was going to use you up.

00;38;12;07 – 00;38;44;00
It was going to spend everything. It was going to exhaust you. It was going to completely and totally take everything out of the fibers of your life and being. And then it was going to kill you. Somebody tell me the arrangement of serving Jesus. He blesses, encourages all the work that he asked you to do is not really work at all because he’s done all the work.

00;38;44;03 – 00;39;24;25
And then at the end, you don’t die. You live on what, Master, would you prefer? Verse 22. But now being made free from sin and become what do loss servants to God? Let’s look at it now. You have your fruit. What is it? Holiness and the end. Say it with. Mature age, ever lasting life. He’s not gonna kill you.

00;39;24;28 – 00;39;48;17
He made you see, when sin was your master. It would use you up. And then when you got to where you couldn’t work for it any longer, when you got to where you couldn’t influence any longer, when you got to where you had no more strength to sin. What that sin do, it killed you. Verse 23 For the wages of sin is what death?

00;39;48;20 – 00;40;24;19
But the gift of God is eternal life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord hears the words. I want to close with the word Lord. There is no slave. If there is, if there is no Lord, there has to be a Lord for there to be a servant. Now, let’s go ahead and get elementary. Let’s start discussing. I’ll do the discussing, if you don’t mind.

00;40;24;19 – 00;40;32;29
But let’s talk for a moment here about who’s qualified to be Lord.

00;40;33;01 – 00;41;04;12
I want to pause for a fact. Think it through. You want Satan to be in charge. Not a happy ending. Do you want you to be in charge? That’s going to be an unmanageable mess. That’s going to be a dumpster fire. So we’re going to call you Lord now? No, we’re going to call Satan. Lord. God forbid. All right.

00;41;04;15 – 00;41;36;12
Let’s let the Democrats be in charge. Let’s let them tell us how to live. Let’s let the Republicans be in charge. It wouldn’t be much better. Let me ask you a question. Who needs to be in charge? One Lord, and that is Jesus. I’m telling you, Jesus owns you. And I know that we as Americans want to bristle against that and say, Wait, I don’t like that language.

00;41;36;13 – 00;42;12;15
Why not? What is it about him that you don’t like long? What is it about him that you fear? He is an awesome master and let him have everything. By the way. He’s so courteous. Can I get a witness? He’s not going to wrench it out of your hands and force you into something. But I will tell you this.

00;42;12;18 – 00;42;37;00
He expects obedience from us. And he expects obedience. God deliver us from all these people who want to get saved so they can live any way they want to live. This has been the plague of Baptists for years. The idea that once saved I always say, means I get to live any way I want to live and go to heaven when I die.

00;42;37;02 – 00;43;10;28
Fran. That’s hogwash. That’s never been the arrangement. When you get saved, you get a master. You are not a boss. You get an owner. Someone who you belong to. By the way. My time is not gone here. But I need to see this. You read the Bible and wonder where all these people’s names are. Jellies. First names, but no surnames.

00;43;11;01 – 00;43;34;12
Get John Paul, Jeremiah, David. No last names. No last names. You know why? Because in heaven, he says he’s going to give us that name. And it’s not going to be Mark or John or Luke. It’s not going to be Matthew and Brad. You know what it’s going to be. Neither do I. It’s a name which no man knows.

00;43;34;12 – 00;44;12;11
Every time I preach on this, somebody comes to me after service, said, Pastor, what is that name? Look, I just told you it’s a name that no man knows. But when we get to heaven, we’re going to have his name. His name? Can I close by? Just in this, Paul? Go back to chapter one. Paul looked at the way Sin treated him as a master, and then Paul looked at the way Jesus was treating him as a master.

00;44;12;15 – 00;44;28;04
And he wrote to the Romans and he says, I have a recommendation. My name is Paul and I am a servant of Jesus Christ. And isn’t that powerful?

00;44;28;06 – 00;45;02;15
I can’t think of a more beautiful arrangement than a do loss with a curious a servant with a lord, not a servant with an adviser. You hear me? Jesus is not Google that to go ask a question when you feel like it. That’s not Jesus. This is a this is. You’re the servant. He’s the Lord. It will always be in that order.

00;45;02;17 – 00;45;34;17
We don’t try to tell the Lord what to do. Can I get a witness? In fact, if their relationship is right, we plead with him constantly to remind us what we’re supposed to be doing. And we don’t question his orders. We just obey. We just obey. I’m not a customer of because you can shop in a lot of places and you can return items.

00;45;34;19 – 00;46;06;06
You’re trying to do that. It’s getting harder and harder, isn’t it? You can you can say, Well, I’m not satisfied with this. I want my money back. Now, you’ve been born into the family of God. Imagine this mother’s. I know this is Father’s Day, but imagine this. A brand new baby just born fresh, no past. Beautiful, pure. Try to put that baby back in its mother.

00;46;06;09 – 00;46;49;06
What would it do? It doesn’t matter if that baby’s been born 5 minutes. If you put that baby back in its mother, it would kill that baby. And for you, for and for you. And God to consider going back to the world is a death wish that you can’t go back. He is Lord now. And if you try to rearrange, there, if you try to force yourself back into the world system, what you’re saying to sin is come and share authority with Jesus over my life and that’ll kill you.

00;46;49;08 – 00;47;17;23
You see the severity of this relationship. They say, Oh, Pastor, what a turnoff. I have no idea what I said. It’s a turnoff. I am enthused about Jesus being Lord. Right. And I think you and I are seeing tonight the most comfortable arrangement. He’s in charge. We’re the servant, Father. Where you help us tonight to see this for a fact.

00;47;17;25 – 00;47;44;07
This is the milk of the world. This is entry level salvation. You’re Lord, we’re your servants. Help us, Father, to embrace this truth. This is not for the world. This is not for the secular clubs, the Cabanas Club and the. The Lions Club and the moose’s. And the goose. Is this. This is not for them. This. They don’t have this arrangement.

00;47;44;09 – 00;48;11;21
They have this list of rules that they make up. But it is enough is nothing compared to the beauty of this relationship we have with you. You see, Father. The reality is, is this is not about rules. This is about relationship. This is about knowing the master beholding his wonderful face and obeying his every gesture. That’s the relationship.

00;48;11;24 – 00;48;14;19
Help us to embrace it. In Jesus name, we pray.
